New Brunswick, NJ- State Bank at New Brunswick $2 18__ Remainder Crisp Uncirculated.
The Torrey notes were issued by the family who was heavily engaged in construction of the Raritan & Delaware Bay Railroad which commenced construction in 1854. As part of the plan to finance their operations, the family issued scrip redeemable at their store in Manchester in goods. The attractive red $3 design features vignettes of a passenger train, the New Jersey coat of arms, and an eagle and shield. A small portrait of Washington completes the design. The State Bank at New Brunswick remainder features a rendition of the New Jersey coat of arms and a female portrait. (Total: 2 notes)
