Description

San Francisco, CA- Globe Restaurant $2 Advertising Note ND (ca. 1870s-80s?) Vlack UNL PMG Very Fine 30.
This is a great restaurant advertising note issued by the Globe Restaurant located at 520-522 Clay Street in San Francisco. The note is undated, but has the feel of something that would have been current sometime between 1875 and 1900. A search of census data and city directories between 1870 and 1917 failed to turn up a match. Perhaps the restaurant simply did not advertise or last long enough to be listed. The note, in any event, is done in grand style, with vignettes of a globe and a bald eagle and federal shield gracing the face, along with a portrait of the Proprietor H. Brunton. The back is somewhat currency-like in appearance as well promoting the restaurant's 12¢ dishes. Originally from the Lowell Horwedel California collection, this note will make a superb addition to any advertising or California collection. We are unaware of any other public appearances by other examples in recent memory attesting to this note's rarity.
