Description

San Francisco, CA- Davis & Son - San Francisco Loan Office $5 ND (ca. 1890) Advertising Note Vlack 1030 PMG Fine 12.
The San Francisco Loan Office, in business ca. 1890, was essentially a pawn store loaning small amounts of money against items left as collateral. The face of the advertising note has some resemblance to the $5 Woodchopper series of Legal Tender Notes. The note has a portrait, presumably of Mr. Davis at lower left and a small red design imitating a Treasury seal at lower right. A gold miner and bear replace the Woodchopper vignette at center. The green back has details about the company.
