Little Rock, AR- Little Rock Post Office / William F. Pope Postmaster 10¢ Aug., 1862 PMG Fine 12.
William Foote Pope served as the Postmaster for Little Rock from 1849-55 and served again in that position during the Civil War from 1861-64. He was appointed postmaster by Presidents Taylor, Fillmore, Lincoln (1861) and Jefferson Davis (1861-64). He issued a series of notes ranging in denominations from 10¢ to $3 that were receivable for postage or redeemable in Confederate Treasury Notes. This design features a vignette of a sailor boy rowing at left and another of a dog head at bottom center. PMG mentions a tape repair of a small fold intersection hole at right and some small rust stains.
