Description

Arkansas Post, AR- Bank of the State of Arkansas, Branch $20 Jan. 3, 1839 G68 Rothert 18-5 PMG Very Fine 25.
The Bank of the State of Arkansas was incorporated on August 15, 1837, and it was placed into liquidation in January 1843. The Arkansas Post branch opened in 1839. This wonderfully designed Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. production depicts a steam locomotive at left. This vignette was also used by Hoyer & Ludwig on the T27 and T28 Confederate Treasury Notes of 1861. At center, a man watches over his livestock as they graze, and at right is a portrait of President and Founding Father Thomas Jefferson. This higher denomination piece is quite rare, with experts agreeing that the population of our current offering is likely no more than three or four examples.

Estimate: $600 - up.
