Description
Selma, AL- Commercial Bank of Alabama $100 Oct. 3, 1859 G16b PMG Very Fine 25.The Commercial Bank of Alabama was chartered in August 1856 and officially opened its doors in October of that year. By 1867, the institution had closed. This $100, similar to other notes from this institution, features a portrait of former U.S. Vice President William R. King at left. King took his oath of office in Havana, Cuba, due to health complications, and when he was finally able to return to the United States, he died of tuberculosis. All in all, he was in office for a little over a month. At right, a group of sailors hold a conversation. An intricately designed red-orange back contributes to this note's aesthetic appeal. We offered another PMG VF 25 piece in June 2023 for $432.
Estimate: $350 - up.
