Description

Montgomery, AL- Central Bank of Alabama $5 18__ G12a Gunther-Derby AO-349-$5d Rosene 231-10 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The Central Bank of Alabama was organized in 1855 and shuttered its doors likely sometime during 1867. This beautifully detailed $5 depicts a view down Dexter Ave. in Montgomery, AL, with the state capitol in the background at left. At right, the antebellum steamboat Montgomery chugs along near a wharf. A group of sailors at center look out into the distance at the steamboat. Red "5" overprints at upper right and left complete the design. This note is printed on India paper mounted to cardstock with four punch cancels in the signature lines. We last offered this exact piece in April 2024, when it realized $456.

Estimate: $400 - up.
