Great Alabama Municipal Rarity

Cahawba, AL- Town Treasurer of Cahawba 12-1/2¢ Aug. 7, 1837 Gunther-Derby AO-127-$.125a PMG Fine 12 Net.
This great rarity was the old Rosene 31-1 listing that's likely been in several key Alabama collections for decades. The town issued scrip during the Panic of 1837, more than a decade after it had ceased to be the state capital. The denomination reflects the widespread use of the Spanish milled dollar and its fractions in commerce at the time. This piece served as the plate note for the Gunther-Derby reference on Alabama Obsoletes. PMG mentions the presence of some rust specks and well done repairs.
