Description

Athens, AL- Limestone County $1 1862 Gunther-Derby AO-109-$1a Rosene 13-3 PMG Very Fine 20.
Limestone County issued scrip in 1862 that was receivable for the payment of taxes and all other dues to the county. The emission comprised denominations between 5¢ and $2, based on currently known notes. Each was signed by the county treasurer, Peterson Tanner, who is also listed as a merchant in the 1860 Federal census. PMG notes stains, primarily confined to the back, that are not overly distracting. Very rare, with only one or possibly two examples known to us at present.
From The Jerry Loegler Collection

Estimate: $400 - up.
