Description

Arkadelphia, AL- "Legand & Wharton" 25¢ Sep. 1862 Gunther-Derby UNL PMG Choice Fine 15.
The attribution of the issuer of this note, Legand & Wharton, is based on deciphering the handwriting of the signatures and is subject to revision with the results of additional research. In any case, this note and its issuer are previously unknown. The design features a vignette of an early passenger train at top center flanked by large 25s in each top corner. The note, which PMG indicates has a fairly long horizontal fold split at left which has fortunately not been repaired, is believed to be unique at present.
From The Jerry Loegler Collection

Estimate: $400 - up.
