Macon, GA- Scott & Carhart 25¢ Jan. 1, 1842One had to be sure to read the fine print on antebellum notes. This note very closely resembles notes from an 1840 series issued by the City of Macon. Upon much closer inspection, this note is payable in the City of Macon (not by it) and was issued by a firm named Scott & Carhart. This example has a great horse vignette and grades Very Good-Fine, with light staining.
