Lovely Serial Number 1 Wisconsin Circus Poster $5 Brown Back

Serial Number 1 Ashland, WI - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 469 The Northern National Bank Ch. # 3607 PMG Extremely Fine 40.
A rare and always in demand $5 Brown Back due to its distinctive "Circus Poster" title layout. Featuring vivid colors, bold pen signatures and incredible eye appeal, it also has the added bonus of being a serial number 1 example from this Ashland County bank. Last on the market in the sale of the Power Collection of $5 Brown Backs in 2006 where it sold for $19,550, it is one of three number 1 $5 Brown Backs reported from this bank. However, this is the only one of the three to have made a public appearance since 1995. There is some minor evidence of a previous mounting on the back (which likely accounts for this note's survival in such a superlative condition) but those remnants are trivial when considering the desirability of such a great-looking $5 Brown Back.
