Description

Elkhorn, WI - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 467 The First National Bank Ch. # 873 PMG About Uncirculated 53.
A scarce early note from this Walworth County bank, this is just the third Brown Back to be reported and becomes the finest of that trio. This pen signed example features sharp ink colors, an appealing bank title layout, and a great town name. It does have evidence of a previous mounting on the back. This Brown Back issue had an engraving error. The town of Elkhorn spells its name as one word. However, the BEP spelled the town's name as two words on 1882 Brown Backs for charter number 873. However, the BEP corrected the spelling to one word with the introduction of Series 1902 Red Seals.
