Description

Unique Washington, Virginia Large Size

Washington, VA - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 624 The Rappahannock National Bank Ch. # 6443 PMG Very Fine 20.
Virginia notes do not get much better than this example which is the only large size reported from this one-bank northern Virginia community. Established in 1796 and later becoming the county seat of Rappahannock County, this locale's sole issuer opened its doors in 1902, maintained a minimal circulation, and had just $600 in large outstanding in 1935. The only large note in the census from this charter (along with a mere three small), it is pleasing, evenly circulated $10 with solid paper for the grade. Its only detracting factor is a redrawing of its signatures which is not too obvious. This great note for the Old Dominion specialist was last on the market in a 2013 auction where it brought over $10,000.
