Third Reported New Market, VA Note

New Market, VA - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 657 The First National Bank Ch. # 10568 PMG Very Fine 30 EPQ.
This wonderful new addition to the census of an excessively rare Virginia bank is one of only three pieces reported, according to the National Currency Foundation census. The First National was only in business for four years before closing its doors in 1918 after issuing barely 1,000 sheets of $10 and $20 Blue Seals. The last note from here to be publicly offered was a $20 Plain Back, in a PMG Very Fine 20 holder, that fetched $11,100 in our 2024 Long Beach auction. This superior piece, another $20 Plain Back which features vibrant ink colors and original surfaces, should do at least as well.
