Description

Rare Miners National Bank, Utah Territory Original Serial Ace
One of Two Known - First Offering Since 1997

Salt Lake City, Utah Territory - $1 Original Fr. 380a The Miners National Bank Ch. # 1646 PMG Very Fine 20.
A great Utah rarity that represents a true miracle of survival, as it hails from a short-lived Salt Lake City bank that was only in business for three years before disappearing forever in 1869. Unlike the Deseret National Bank, which is popular but not as scarce, even as a Territorial, the Miners National has always been one of the virtually unobtainable Utah banks. Just two notes have been reported from this charter - both Original Series aces - one of which last appeared on the market in a 1978 Hickman-Oakes sale and this offering which last crossed the auction block in the sale of the J. L. Irish Territorial Collection in 1997. With just $686 outstanding in 1910, it is very doubtful that any more survivors are apt to appear. Remarkably, this excessively rare note is attractive for the grade with bright paper, great color and signatures, and problem free wear. This is a Territorial note that will certainly be a highlight of the next collection it enters.
