Description
Second Reported Wheeler, Oregon
Low Serial Number 5 Wheeler, OR - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 609 The
First National Bank Ch. # 12427 PMG Very Fine 25.This is another great Oregon rarity that comes from one of the smallest communities in the state to ever host a National Bank. Located in Tillamook County, this obscure locale had a population of less than 300 when the First National opened for business in 1923. It was obviously not a very successful venture as it issued a mere 250 sheets of $5 Plain Backs before closing for good in 1926. Prior to this evening, just one note was reported from this charter - a circulated Number 1 example that has never appeared at public sale. That all changes with the surfacing of this pleasing serial number 5 note that finally gives collectors the chance to acquire this very rare charter. It is a very nice pen-signed note with attractive color and solid paper for the grade. This very rare Oregon note should generate serious bidding interest tonight.
