Excessively Rare Oregon $50 Brown Back - One of Two Reported

Heppner, OR - $50 1882 Brown Back Fr. 511 The First National Bank Ch. # (P)3774 PMG Very Fine 20.
This true Oregon trophy note not only hails from a very rare Morrow County bank, but also is one of just two $50 Brown Backs reported for the entire state. Only five Oregon banks issued this type and denomination. Today, just one is known from Portland and the other is the piece we are pleased to offer this evening. Last on the market in a 2006 auction where it brought over $30,000, this is a pleasing mid-grade example with nice color and signatures along with only minor repairs and pinholes. With the known Portland $50 making its last public appearance in a 1997 auction, it may be many years before another opportunity arises to acquire this rare type and denomination.
