Description

Unique for the Bank

Steubenville, OH - $5 Original Fr. 397b The Jefferson National Bank Ch. # 1062 PMG Very Fine 25.
A great Ohio rarity that we first offered in our 2010 FUN auction where we stated that it was, "An excessively rare note from a bank which issued First Charters only before liquidating at the expiration of its charter in 1885. This is the only note known from the bank." Fifteen years later, this attractive note still remains unique for this Jefferson County charter. PMG has noted a couple of small ink stains on the back of this appealing First Charter $5, but they are merely spots that one of the Gallagher brothers who signed this note likely caused when he set this note on top of another he had freshly signed. On a type note they would indeed be a serious detriment, but on a pen signed National a detraction such as this would barely be worth a mention even by the most scrupulous grader.
