Gorgeous and Rare Clyde, Ohio $5 Brown Back
Clyde, OH - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 471 The First National Bank
Ch. # (M)4197 PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 EPQ*.This is a quite beautiful note that hails from a Sandusky County bank which issued Brown Backs only before closing its doors forever in 1906. It is just the fifth piece to be reported - all $5s - and it easily becomes the finest known. Aside from a few very light folds, it has all the eye appeal of a fully Choice New note with wonderful color, dark pen signatures, and a great bank title layout. Not surprisingly, it has also received PMG's "*" designation for exceptional eye appeal. By way of comparison, we auctioned a PMG Very Fine 30 EPQ note from here five years ago for $3,720.
