Description

Desirable Oystermen's NB of Sayville $10 Brown Back

Sayville, NY - $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 490 The Oystermen's NB Ch. # (E)5186
This is the only $10 Brown Back known from this avidly collected Long Island bank, and boasts one of the snazziest occupational titles found on any bank in any state, harking back to the days when this small Suffolk County community was a major source of supply for the entire northeast for these tasty mollusks. The note was obtained by our consignor in our Collection of a Gentleman sale in 1998, where we noted that the color, printing clarity and signatures were all about as good as one could hope to find on any National Bank Note. The last Brown Back from this bank offered at public sale realized over $10,000 in 2006, and this beauty is likely to see a five figure bid before the hammer falls tonight as well. PCGS Extremely Fine 40.
