Pine Plains, NY - $1 1875 Fr. 384 The Stissing National Bank Ch. # 981 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.A gorgeous note which is by far the finest of the three aces recorded from this Dutchess County bank. It's been off the market for more than a half century since Dick obtained it as lot 455 in Bill Donlon's sale of his Personal & Research Collection in May of 1971. It's a reminder that grading in "the good old days" was considerably more subjective and based on eye appeal rather than fold counting, as it was described there as "About New," with no mention of a couple of pinholes. PMG does note the "Exceptional Embossing," and the note displays such vivid color and eye appeal that it easily has claims to a considerably higher grade.
