Description

New York, NY- $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 469 The NB of the Republic Ch. # 1000
A nice example of the famous "Racketeer Note," so-called because the charter number covering the reverse was flashed by its owner at the top of a roll of bills, convincing the victim that the note was really a $1000 bill rather than a $5 bill. Whether true or apocryphal, the story has lingered for generations, giving the note its distinctive name. Nice Fine-Very Fine, bright for the grade.
