Very Rare Roundup Note - Finest of Three Reported
Roundup, MT - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 652 The First National
Bank Ch. # (W)9165 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.This wonderful Montana rarity bears one of the truly great town names used on any National. Just three notes are listed in the census from this tiny one bank location: a low grade $20 Date Back that has never appeared at public sale and two $20 Plain Backs, one in Very Good-Fine that was last on the market in our 2006 Central States auction (and which brought $12,650). This pretty note is the other known $20 and it is easily the finest of the mere trio reported. It is now making its first appearance since a 2010 auction. It is a bright, boldly printed piece with ideal ink colors and just light, even wear.
