Description

Rare $100 Red Seal

Saint Louis, MO - $100 1902 Red Seal Fr. 688 The Central National Bank Ch. # (M)8455 PCGS Banknote Choice Fine 15.
An extremely rare National Bank Note type, with the latest National Currency Foundation census reporting only 135 examples from all banks in the United States combined. Just two of that number are reported from this St. Louis bank that was only in business from 1906 until its liquidation in 1920. It is also the only one of that known pair to have made a public appearance in almost 30 years with that last occurrence being in a 2013 auction. Displaying just even wear, it exhibits good signatures and bright colors for the grade, even with minor restorations. This is still a very undervalued type and denomination, although values have risen substantially during the past twenty years.
