Very Rare Fr. 406 Rolla, MO 1875 $5 - One of Five Notes Known for this Friedberg Number

Rolla, MO - $5 1875 Fr. 406 The National Bank of Rolla Ch. # 1865 PCGS Very Fine 30.
This attractive note hails from a popular Phelps County bank that has an interesting census compilation. Just five First Charter notes - all 1875 $5s - are reported from this institution - one of which is in the Higgins Museum while the other four, including this offering, are all from the same sheet. Even more interesting, of the four notes from that cut sheet, only this piece has ever appeared at public sale. To further add to its appeal, the signature combination found on this note, that of Bruce and Wyman, is very rare with only five examples reported for Friedberg number 406. It has a small edge tear and its margins are slightly miscut, but, otherwise, this is a bright example with great color, bold signatures, and an exceptionally ornate title layout for a First Charter.
