Port Gibson, MS - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 477 The Mississippi
National Bank Ch. # 5715 PCGS Very Fine 30.An extremely rare note from the only bank in this small Claiborne County town. This bank, which issued Brown Backs only before disappearing in 1907, was unknown prior to the discovery of a pair of notes two serial numbers apart in 2005. This offering was one of that pair and it last crossed the public auction block in our 2005 Long Beach auction. Since then, one other piece has surfaced, but none have crossed the auction block in a dozen years. This pretty, pen signed $5 retains part of its top selvage and features vibrant ink color and low serial number 13.
