Minneapolis, MN - $1 Original Fr. 380 The State NB Ch. # 1623
First Charters only from this rare Minneapolis bank, where the census stands at only five pieces, two of which are quite low grade. Track & Price lists only one offering at public sale during the past two decades, with a somewhat lower grade Original $5 fetching $3220 in 2011. Richard Mendenhall's signature is noted at lower right. In 1856, he started a banking and land agency in Minneapolis with his partner and long time friend Cyrus Beede. After Beede left Beede & Mendenhall's Bank, Mendenhall went on to serve as President and co-owner of the State Bank of Minnesota which ultimately chartered to become the State National Bank of Minneapolis.
