Description

Excessively Rare Dorchester Note

Dorchester, MA - $1 Original Fr. 380a The First NB Ch. # 156 PMG Extremely Fine 40.
This attractive Original Series $1 comes from one of the toughest to find Massachusetts banks we have ever offered. It is represented only by a pair of Original Series fives, one of which we sold in 2008 for $14,950 and the other in 2011 for $8,625, and this ace which made its last public appearance in a 1983 NASCA sale. This bank, which was chartered in 1863, had the distinction of being the second National Bank in Massachusetts to fail, which it did in 1868 after less than five years of operation. This note is a lovely, well inked and boldly signed piece which just has the typical New England trim. It is a truly rare note worthy of a very strong bid.
