Description

Cambridge, MA - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 466 The First NB Ch. # 433
We sold the first note to appear from this extremely rare bank in over two decades back in January of 2009, where we said "An exceptionally rare Cambridge bank with just one note listed in the census, with that piece not having been seen since a 1982 auction appearance. This example is new to the census, and offers this state's collectors their first opportunity in twenty seven years to add a note from this charter to their holdings. Fine." That piece fetched $8050, reflecting the strong demand for better Massachusetts material demonstrated in recent years. This hitherto unreported specimen, long hidden in the vaults housing the Capital District Collection, is far nicer than the Brown Back we sold two years ago. Pen signed PCGS Very Fine 35PPQ, a lovely note likely to see a similar realization by the time the hammer falls this evening.
