Description

Boston, MA- $50 1875 Fr. 446 The Mechanics NB Ch. # 932
A lovely example of this very rare type, which, according to the new Kelly census, numbers only 83 examples from all banks combined. This is one of the highest grade pieces of that number, and comes from the Midwest collection (whose original owner died in 1957) with an illustrious pedigree dating back to the holdings of F.C.C. Boyd. It was last offered publicly in an Abe Kosoff sale in October of 1951, and resided in the Midwest collection from that time until its offering here tonight. While closely trimmed in the traditional New England style, it is a bright, attractive example with great colors and paper quality. It certainly ranks in the top quarter of all notes known, and in the top ten of those offered in the past decade. Very Fine-Extremely Fine.
