Beautiful Presque Isle Large Size - The Third Reported

Presque Isle, ME - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 626 The Presque Isle National Bank Ch. # 3827 PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
One of the pleasures of cataloging for Heritage is that you never know what will come across your desk from one day to the next. This offering is a perfect example of that situation. This note hails from one of the most remote locations in northern Maine and represents one of the rarest banks in the state. Prior to this evening, just two large size (and five small) were known from this charter that failed in 1933 with both of the known large notes having seen their share of circulation. That all changes with the surfacing of this gorgeous $10 Plain Back. Obviously set aside at the time of issue, it is a pen signed beauty with bold ink colors and plenty of original embossing. It arrived at our offices housed in a bank envelope (which is included with the lot) with the notation "New Money - Jan. 18, 1928." Since C(arl) A. Weick became the bank's President that year, this note, which bears his signature, was, most likely, set aside by him as a treasured souvenir. Either way, it becomes easily the finest note reported from this rare charter and should generate serious bidding interest tonight. (Total: 2 items)
