Description

Centreville, IA - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 466 The First NB Ch. # 337
A very scarce early Centreville note, with this one of only two Brown Backs known from this institution and the only $5 example. It enjoys a distinguished pedigree, having been discovered as part of the famed Oat Bin Hoard, which surfaced in rural Missouri in 1966 and was purchased by Howard "Doc" Carter and later obtained by Dean Oakes and Don Jensen. The hoard consisted of about $28,000 in large size notes and included numerous rarities, including an early $100 Legal Tender Note. Evenly circulated pen signed PMG Fine 12.
