Description

Rome, GA - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 602 The National City Bank Ch. # 10302
Fine. A Napier-McClung Plain Back from one of the two banks to issue this type and denomination from here. Both are of roughly equal scarcity. This Northwest Georgia community was burned during the advance of Sherman's army during the Civil War. Presidential history buffs will recognize this as the resting place of Ellen Wilson, wife of President Woodrow Wilson. We sold a $20 Plain Back in Very Fine from here at our 2003 FUN auction for $488.75. In today's stronger market we expect that this piece will likely approach that level.
