Description
Excessively Rare Georgia Ace-Finest of Four Known
Athens, GA - $1 Original Fr. 380 The NB of Athens Ch. # 1639An excessively rare ace from the Peach State, where it is one of just four examples reported from all banks combined, and the highest grade of the quartet as well. One of the three other reported examples is actually in pieces and has much of the design missing, another has never appeared on the market, and the third was last offered twenty five years ago and has never again been seen. Fortunately for collectors, this example is a perfect for the grade evenly circulated specimen which is so nice that it has received the PPQ designation from PCGS. Since this is the only Georgia ace which has appeared at public sale (save for the badly damaged and quite ragged piece we sold some years ago) since 1986, any estimate here is simply a wild surmise, but if rarity and desirability are any guide, our estimate for this most attractive Fine 12PPQ example may well prove to be conservative in the extreme.
