Saint Augustine, FL - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 606 The St. Augustine NB Ch. # 11420This was considerably the smaller and weaker of St. Augustine's two issuers, with this institution rescued from insolvency by the Barnett NB of Jacksonville during the Depression, although it retained its own corporate identity due to Florida's law preventing branch banking. While large notes from here are not exceptionally rare (although they hardly rank as common either), most are in rather low grade, with only three listed as Very Fine or better. This attractive piece caries a PMG assigned grade of Very Fine 30, making it one of less than a handful of higher grade examples known from here.
