Description

One of Three Known

Mystic, CT - $1 1875 Fr. 385 The Mystic NB Ch. # 1268
An extremely rare bank which issued only First Charters and Brown Backs before liquidating in 1887. Just three notes are listed in the census, all First Charter aces (two originals and this lone 1875), and we have had the privilege of selling all of them, one in 1998, one in 2000, and one in 2011, each about the same grade and each at an ever escalating price. The last to sell was graded Fine 12 and brought $6468.75. This piece, which is the example we sold back in 1998, is every bit the equal of that note, with its only defect a paper pull on the reverse. PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25, a true Connecticut rarity and a charter missing from even as massive a collection as the holdings of Don Gilletti.
