Uncirculated 55.Certainly one of the highlights of this incredible group of California notes that we are offering this evening, this wonderful sheet is the only Serial Number 1 $5 Red Seal uncut sheet known from any bank in the Golden State. It represents one of only three Serial Number 1 uncut large size sheets of any type reported from any California bank. Those three sheets include this example, a $10-$10-$10-$20 Red Seal sheet, also from this bank, and a $5 1902 Date Back sheet from San Rafael that recently sold at auction for over $55,000. The first of the two known Number 1 sheets from this San Francisco bank to ever be offered at public sale, it represents the first sheet issued by this charter after it changed its title in 1906. It has folds between each note and minor handling, but the notes themselves are quite fresh with bold ink colors and dark pen signatures, including that of Wm. H. Crocker as bank president. This is a great California sheet worth whatever it takes to bring home tonight.
