Description

Scarce Santa Barbara Gold Bank Note

Santa Barbara, CA - $5 1873 Fr. 1139 The First National Gold Bank Ch. # 2104 PMG Choice Fine 15.
This is one of the scarcest of the National Gold Banks, with the census now reporting only ten $5 examples in all grades combined. This piece has long been part of that census and is now crossing the auction block for the first time. It has solid paper for the assigned grade with pleasing color and legible pen signatures. Its only detracting factor is just a bit of contemporary writing on the back. Last year, a damaged PMG Very Good 10 example sold for over $5,500 at auction. This clearly superior piece should certainly do better.
