Description

Very Scarce California $100 Brown Back

San Francisco, CA - $100 1882 Brown Back Fr. 524 The First National Bank Ch. # 1741 PMG Choice Fine 15.
An extremely rare type and denomination for the state of California, this offering is one of just eleven $100 Brown Backs listed in the National Currency Foundation census for the entire Golden State. It is the only such piece reported from this major San Francisco bank, a charter that started out as a National Bold Bank, and it is being publicly offered for the first time. It is a crisp, moderately circulated note with ample margins, pleasing color, and dark signatures. Last January, we auctioned a PMG Fine 12 example of this rare type and denomination from another San Francisco bank for $9,300.
