Description
Very Rare San Francisco $100 National Gold Bank Note
Last Offered Over 25 Years Ago
San Francisco, CA - $100 1870 Fr. 1162 The First National Gold
Bank Ch. # 1741 PMG Fine 12.The parade of rarities continues with one of the greatest notes in this collection, a $100 San Francisco National Gold Bank Note. It is one of just nine examples of this denomination in the National Currency Foundation census - five of which are from this bank, along with one each from Oakland, Santa Barbara, and two from Petaluma. However, of the five from this San Francisco issuer, one is in the ANA Museum while another has never appeared at public sale. Another example in a PMG Fine 15 Net holder sold for $207,000 in a 2009 auction while yet another piece, a raw Very Fine, fetched $258,750 in a 2007 auction. That summary leaves tonight's offering which last appeared on the market in a 1997 auction. It has the usually seen repairs, but the colors are quite sharp for a note in this grade and the overall appearance is one of an even higher grade piece.
