Description
A Rare and Gorgeous Fr. 1143 $10 National Gold Bank Note
San Francisco, CA - $10 1872 Fr. 1143 The National Gold Bank &
Trust Company Ch. # 1994 PMG Very Fine 25.Another note from this very scarce San Francisco Gold Bank Note issuer, this one a $10 that is a special piece. Last on the market in our May 1996 auction, it is a truly lovely example that offers vivid colors, a bold red overprint, and sharp bright paper with the lovely golden hue that these notes reflect when truly high grade. It is certainly one of finest of the 26 extant examples from this institution, and is tied with just one other piece as the finest graded $10 from this charter by PMG. It shows no evidence of "improvements" or restorations, aside from a couple of closed pinholes. Over three years ago, the other PMG Very Fine 25 example, in a comment-free holder, brought $43,200 in our 2019 Long Beach auction. Aside from the closed pinholes, this offering is certainly the equal of that other note.
