Description

High Grade D.O. Mills & Co. Gold Bank Note

Sacramento, CA- $5 Original National Gold Bank Note Fr. 1138 The National Gold Bank of D.O. Mills & Co. Ch. # 2014
This is a strikingly pretty National Gold Bank Note which is one of the top three known $5.00 examples from Sacramento. It has a long and distinguished pedigree, dating back to the holdings of pioneer collector Robert F. Schermerhorn, and is illustrated in the Hessler catalogue of U.S. paper money. It last appeared on the market in 1992, when we sold it at auction, and it has been unavailable since that appearance. It is a virtual twin to the example from here which we sold in September of 2000, which realized $15,400. Expect this piece, with great color, signatures, and margins, to approach or even exceed that level. Very Fine.
