Description

Rare California 1875 $10

Oakland, CA - $10 1875 Fr. 419 The Union National Bank Ch. # 2266 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
This very attractive example of a great California rarity is one of just nineteen non-Gold Bank 1875 $10s in the National Currency Foundation census for all Golden State banks. While many of those listed are very low grade, that is not the case here as this pretty note, which traces its provenance to The Philip Krakover Collection sold in 1990 by John Hickman, is a bright, nicely margined piece with pleasing color and bold pen signatures. It is also one of just seven non-Gold Bank notes reported from this rare Oakland charter, a bank that was closed by the receiver in April of 1909 and which had less than $10,000 outstanding in 1916.
