Description

Low Serial Number 9 Imperial, CA 1882 $5 Brown Back

Low Serial Number 9 Imperial, CA - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 477 The First National Bank Ch. # 6027 PMG Extremely Fine 40.
This is a quite lovely $5 Brown Back from the only bank to issue in this southern California location. It is one of just seven pieces reported from this institution that was only in business from 1901 until its liquidation inn 1923. Of those seven notes in the census, five are from the eighth and ninth sheets of $5 Brown Backs issued by this charter shortly after its opening. One of that number, this pretty example is the top note from the ninth sheet and it retains its full top selvage. The first of those low number notes that we have been able to offer in over 25 years, this pen signed beauty has wonderful color and huge margins all around. Two years ago, a serial number 8 example, in a much lower grade, fetched $7,200 at auction.
