Covina, CA - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 477 The First National Bank
Ch. # (P)5830 Uncut Sheet PMG About Uncirculated 53 EPQ.This truly fantastic uncut sheet of $5 Brown Backs was the highlight of The Charley Colver Collection of California Nationals that we auctioned in May of 1999. In the hands of our consignor since that time, it is the only uncut sheet of Brown Backs known from any California bank and it is now once again available for one new collector to enjoy. Charley had originally acquired this sheet directly from the owners of the bank and, as he put it, it was "my favorite and most cherished bank note." There are folds between the notes, and some minor evidence of handling, along with one as-made ink spot on the back, but those are mere trifles when considering the rarity and desirability of such a unique item from the Golden State. It sold for $77,000 twenty-six years ago and it remains worth whatever it takes to bring it home tonight.
