Gorgeous Clifton, Arizona Third Charter Blue Seal

Clifton, AZ - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 633 The First NB Ch. # (P)5821
A simply spectacular note which we sold almost seven years ago, where it was described "An absolutely extraordinary note which may well be the finest Arizona large size example to cross the auction block this decade. It comes from the family of one of this bank's officers, and is an absolute peach. It exudes complete originality, right down to its huge embossing, with the paper that vivid white that only comes on a select few notes and the colors those of a note printed this morning. The margins are full all around and the signatures come in two colors. It also comes from a just plain rare bank, with the census showing only two other Third Charter examples known from here. We would unhesitatingly label this note Gem but for an old sheet fold in the bottom margin, which leaves us no option but to call it Choice Crisp Uncirculated. Expect this beauty to easily reach and likely exceed $8000-12000." The note blew right through its high estimate, ultimately ending at $14,375. Now it is ensconced in a PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ holder, the currency grading gods having decreed that even if a note is specially cut from a sheet, carefully preserved, and clearly never circulated, the presence of a sheet fold renders the note "About New." For those who desire a rare Arizona note in truly impeccable condition, disregard the plastic and bid on the contents. One look at this note says you will never be sorry you did.
