Ch. # 1736 PMG Choice Very Fine 35 EPQ.A wonderful Alabama rarity, this is likely the finest of just three $50 Brown Backs known from all Alabama banks combined. Although this type and denomination was issued by ten banks overall in Alabama, only three survivors have been documented currently - two from this Selma bank and one from Birmingham, according to the National Currency Foundation census. As mentioned, this offering is most likely the finest of the three as the other two known examples were each graded a raw Very Fine in their last respective auction appearances in 2003. This widely margined piece has loads of eye appeal with bold ink colors and signatures and only light circulation. This Alabama trophy note last fetched $18,800 in our 2016 Central States auction and is rare and desirable enough to approach that number again.
