Description
Stephen Decatur. Charles Schlecht security engraving of Commodore Stephen Decatur, with Bureau, Engraving (and) Printing imprint. The vignette measures two by one and three-fourth inches on India paper mounted on card. A slightly reduced version of this vignette appears on the Series 1878-80 $20 Silver Certificates. According to a pencil notation on the card, Burt engraved this vignette in 1872. Pencil notations also indicate the currency use of this image by Friedberg designations. Both vignette and card are in excellent condition.
