Note: Knight was the artist who drew the bison Pablo, which Marcus W. Baldwin engraved for the fabled Bison Note, the Series 1901 $10 Legal Tender Note; (16) an undated note on Treasury Department stationery labeled in Smillie's hand "Signed dies in stock of Bureau of Eng. & Ptg." Note lists portraits by Alfred Sealey and Lorenzo Hatch; (17) The Collectors Club Philatelist (Vol. XXVII No. 3) July, 1948, which includes Clarence W. Brazer's "Historical Catalog of U.S. Stamp Essays & Proofs" chronicling the output of G.F.C. Smillie Also included in the lot is the July, 1948 issue of the Philatelist with an article on G.F.C.
